Just Something I Whipped Up...

I picked up a few T's for my niece at the store. I didn't know what I wanted to do with them, but I definitely wanted to use up some scrapes! I had a pink long-sleeve shirt that had some small holes towards the bottom. So I cut off the sleeves to make it short sleeve. With the part cut off I made some ruffles and sewed it around the neckline. The bottom ruffle was a little off center and it was driving me crazy! I had two choices: remove the bottom ruffle and try sewing it on again, or adding another design to cover up the mistake. I opted to create something to cover up the mistake. I didn't want to chance re-sewing the ruffle because my luck the same thing would happen again! I created this cute flower out of the same fabric and attached it. I hope it holds up in the wash!!!

And another ruffled collar. This is left over from another project. I sewed two stripes together on three sides, leaving one short side open to turn. I slip-stitch the end closed and sewed down the middle with a long straight stitch to create the ruffles. Then sewed it on the shirt. I think it will be adorable on the little princess.

Here's another Twirly Skirt I made from two fat quarters. Wal-Mart sells these fat quarters for a $1 and they have some cute designs. The shirt I bought and appliqued the circles on.

Then I made a shirt for the little guy so he can match his 'lil sis. There were some scraps left over, believe it or not so I used it for the tie. I love how this tie turned out! I think it is so cute!

Halloween & Frills!

I have finally put the scissors to the fabric and started cutting! The pumpkin fabric I bought for another reason, but scrapes always come in handy. I bought two black shirts for my niece and nephew then appliqued the pumpkins on the shirts.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a black onesie, but I found this cute Halloween onesie.

As cute as it is, I couldn't leave it like that! I had to spruce it up a bit. I then remembered the orange scrapes of fabric from the Harley pillows. I was pretty sure I had kept it, but finding it was another issue! I luckily found it and also found some black ribbon with white polka dots! So I made little ruffles for the sleeves. They are so cute! The orange fabric will fray a bit, but it might add a little more character!

And I couldn't stop there!!! I had to add some ribbon to Hannah's shirt! I just used the ribbon, no orange fabric. It is just as cute, and now each one has their own festive shirt.

I still couldn't stop! I had to do a hair clip before I stopped. This turned out a little better than the last. Last time I skipped a step, oops. I guess it really does make a difference if you follow directions!

Another 1st!!!

Appliqueing!!! This is just one more thing that I have been wanting to try for a while. I often put off trying new things and techniques because I am such a perfectionist that I don't want to mess up and not be able to fix it. But I am learning that I have to start somewhere and practice makes near perfection. So my sister has been the "guinna pig" for most of my new sewing endeavors, or at least her daughter. The applique part was super easy; however, I do need to practice on sewing the border. At least from a distance you can't tell where the flaws are!

I have two adorable 3 year old nieces. These pink shirts are going to them! I hope they will come in handy this fall.

My sister has two girls and a boy. Now the two girls have semi-matching shirts! I know Hannah will think they are "cute" as she says it in her southern draw.

And the final one!! I think is so cute. I know it isn't even Halloween yet, but I had to make this one. It is made from some fabric I had left from the Christmas apron. I think it serves a good purpose. This is for the newest addition for my sister's fam. I think she will sport it quit well!

We don't have a printer so these letters were hand drawn. I just found some cute fonts online that I wouldn't be able to do free-hand. So I am sure there are going to be some more appliqueing going on with cuter fonts! More to come....
